SUPPLEMENTAL SAILING INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROGRAMME EVENTS

 

Harbour Tearoom Early Series
Saturday 19th April & Sunday 11th May
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General: This will be a series of 4 races, held over 2 days in the early part of the season.
2 Course: The courses will be selected from the Club course card (Appendix C).
3 Start:
Races 1 & 2 on Saturday 19th of April will start at 1200.
Race one, only, will be a pursuit race as described in Sailing Instruction 16. The second
race will start as soon as practical after the finish of the first race.
Races 3 & 4 on Sunday 11th of May will start at 1400.
Race four will start as soon as practical after the finish of the third race.
4 Time Limit: The time limit for each race will be 2 hours at the discretion of the race
officer.
5 Entry: Entry is restricted to LCC members only. The entry fee is £5 for the series.
6 Prizes: will be awarded according to the number of entrants for the series.
1629 Series
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General: The 1629 Series is an open event and consists of 3 ‘round the cans’
races.
2 Saturday: Race 1: Start 1300
Race 2: Start as soon as practical after the finish of the last boat in the first
race.
3 Sunday: Race 3: Start 1330.
4 Time Limit: The time limit for each race will be 2 hours.
5 Race Start will be one of the following and will be advised at pre race briefing:
Normal race starts with starting line.
Gate Starts as per club rules appendix ‘A’
6 Entries: Entries, with a fee of £10, to:
Peter Sinclair, 46 Pluscarden Road, Elgin, Moray
Payments can be accepted on the day prior to race.
All entries should be accompanied with a valid HANDICAP AND
INSURANCE CERTIFICATES.
7 Prizes: The 1629 trophy will be presented to the winner. Prizes will be presented
to first, second and third placed boats in the series.
Social: BUFFET AND PRIZE GIVING IN THE 1629 RESTAURANT, SUNDAY
27TH, APRIL, AT 1800.

Dornoch Firth Raft Up and Party
Saturday 24th May
Boats to cruise in company into the Firth – where they will raft up for
Pot Luck Supper - providing a different course per boat. More details once numbers known the
week before.
Social interaction between the boats Remember to wear life jackets when transferring between
boats especially at night
Spey Bay Regatta
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General: The Spey Bay Regatta is an open event between Lossiemouth and
Findochty Cruising Clubs and consist of 3 races. All boats will muster in
Buckie on Friday Night.
2 Classes: There will be 3 classes: Class 1 – Handicap Lower than CYCA 18
Class 2 – Handicap Higher than CYCA 18
Class 3 – Restricted Sail
3 Races: The individual races will be:-
 Craigenroan a passage race from Buckie finishing at Findochty consisting of 2 courses
(one course for class 1 the second for classes 2 & 3)
 Edindoune an Olympic course off Findochty.
 Strathlene round the cans off Findochty with a sprint ‘finish’ to Buckie
All 3 races will be held on Saturday 7th. June. Start times to be advised.
4 Prizes: Prizes will be awarded as follows:-
Prizes for 1st place for each class (3 classes) in each race.
1st, 2nd and 3rd for each class overall.
1st prize for regatta based on least accumulated points.
Prize awarded to boat meeting the best endeavour. (details to be advised)
Spot prizes as advertised.

BUCKIE HARBOUR TO FINDOCHTY AT 1930 AND RETURN AT
1200.

Freewinds Marin Trophy and Fleetwood Cup

1 General: Racing will take place off the East Beach at Lossiemouth.
2 Start: 1400.
3 Racing: The procedure is as described in sailing instruction 16.
4 Time Limit: The time limit for this race will be 2 hours at the discretion of the race officer.
5 Entry: Entry is restricted to members of L.C.C. The entry fee is £5.
6 Prizes: The Freewinds Marine Trophy will be awarded to the winner.
FLEETWOOD CUP

1 General: Racing will take place off the East Beach at Lossiemouth.
2 Start: As soon as possible after Freewinds Pursuit
3 Course: Course will be selected from the club course card Appendix C
4 Time Limit: Will be 2 hours at the discretion of the race officer.
5 Entries: Entry is restricted to members of L.C.C. The entry fee is £5.
6 Prizes: The Fleetwood Cup will be presented to the winner.
Dramming Jug and NSYA Cup
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1) General: The Dramming Jug and NSYA Cup are open overnight passage races from
Lossiemouth, via fixed marks in the Moray Firth back to Lossiemouth. The
approximate lengths of the courses are 78 and 50 Miles, respectively. RRS rules and
these sailing instructions shall govern this event.
2) Classes: There will be two classes; Class 1 with spinnaker for the Dramming Jug, and
Class 2 which will be a restricted sail class, in accordance with Sailing Instruction 15,
for the NSYA Cup. All boats shall display on their backstay the numeral pennant of their
class.
3) Courses:
Class 1
1) From the start to the Riff Bank East (yellow) buoy (570 38.4'N, 003o 58.2'W approx)
starboard rounding, to Tarbat Ness, port rounding, to the Target Float (57o 51.7N,
03o 52.6W approx) , starboard rounding, to Tarbat Ness, starboard rounding, to
the Three Kings East Cardinal Mark (57o 43.8N, 03o 54.4W approx), port rounding,
to the finish.
Class 2
1) From the start to the Three Kings East Cardinal Mark (570 43.8N, 030 54.4W
approx), port rounding, to the Riff Bank East (yellow) Buoy (570 38.4'N,
0030 58.2'W approx), port rounding, to the finish.
IMPORTANT: Boats must keep a careful watch, at all times, and give a good clearance
to all obstructions, especially while approaching and rounding marks, when close to the
shore and any other areas of shallow water.
4) Start (Class 1 and Class 2): SE of Lossiemouth, between the mast of the start boat
with an orange flag and a buoy or a gate start as appendix ‘A’ The Start time is 2200,
Friday 20th June.

5) Finish (Class 1 and Class 2): in accordance with Sailing Instruction 12 (b), the Finish
Line will be a line formed by the leading lights to Lossiemouth Harbour (192°). Boats shall
take their own times, when crossing this line, within 200 m of the harbour entrance, and in
accordance with Sailing Instruction 12 (c).
6) Timing:
Boats are required to log their times, in accordance with Sailing Instruction 12 (c), at
the following positions
1) Due West of Rift Bank East Buoy.
2) Due West of the Target Float (class one only).
3) Due West of the Three Kings East Cardinal Mark (both
classes). 4) At the finish.
Intermediate times will be used if necessary to determine race results in the event of no
boat completing the course within the time limit. This changes rule 35.
All racing will cease at 1800 on Saturday 21st June.
7) Entry: This is an open event. The entries, and race fee of £10, payable to Lossiemouth
Cruising Club, to be sent to: Peter Sinclair, 46 Pluscarden Road, Elgin, Moray or can be paid
prior to race start.
8) Prizes: Trophies will be presented to the winners from each class, with prizes for the first
three placed boats.
9) Prize Giving: 2100 on Saturday 21st June, RNA Club (TBC), Lossiemouth.
Ben Ledi Trophy

SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General:The Ben Ledi Trophy is a passage race to Helmsdale, of approximately 25
Miles in length.
2 Start: The start time is 10:00
3 Course: The start mark will be between a buoy laid approximately 200m SE of
Lossiemouth harbour entrance and the south pier. Proceed to Helmsdale to finish
northwest of waypoint 58 06N, 003 35W (the shaded area in the chartlet below)
Boats will record their own times in accordance with Sailing Instruction 12.c.
4 The start time is 10:00.
5 Time limit – Racing shall cease at 1800 hours, Saturday 28th June. This changes Rule
35.
6 Entry is restricted to LCC members. The entry fee is £5.
7 The Ben Ledi Trophy will be awarded to the first boat overall.
8 Harbour dues in Helmsdale will be paid by LCC.
Steamboat Weekend
Supplementary Sailing Instructions:
1) General: This event is intended to be a fun weekend of sailing and social events. Please
note that points gained in the ‘Duck race’ (rubber dinghy) will also count towards the
results for the event. However, only points from the sailing races will count towards the
Club Championship.
2) Saturday: Racing will start at 1100. The first race will be a pursuit race. The Second
Race ( Olympic type) will start as soon as practical, after the First Race.
3) Sunday: Race Three will start at 1200. The time limit for each race will be 2 hours.
4) Entries: all entries, with fee £25, to Peter Sinclair, 46 Pluscarden Road, Elgin, Moray
5) The trophy will be presented to the winner. Prizes will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd
placed boats in the series. Additional Prizes will be awarded for duck racing and treasure
hunting
Proposed Social Programme:
Saturday - ‘Rubber Duck’ race in harbour, after sailing.
‘Treasure Hunt’ for charity in the early evening, Team of two from each boat.
1800 BBQ followed later by Live music and dancing in the Steamboat.
Sunday - Breakfast served to all competitors on the pontoons at 0930.
1500 Paul’s Infamous Chilli with rice and tortillas served in the Steamboat
before we end the weekend with the prize giving.
Wick Race (Start of Orkney Week 2008)
Friday 18th July
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1) General: The Wick Race is an open overnight passage race, starting at
Lossiemouth and finishing at Wick. This race is also a means to get boats to Wick
for the start of the 2008 Summer Cruise to Orkney.
2) Classes: There will be two classes -
Class 1 - with spinnaker. Class 2 - restricted sail class, in accordance with Sailing
Instruction15.
All boats shall display on their backstay the numeral pennant of their class.
Course: The course is from the start to the finish line at the entrance to Wick Bay.
Please note Sailing Instruction 17 e)
4) Start: The start is SE of Lossiemouth and is between the mast of the start boat with an
orange flag and a buoy.
5) Start Times:-
Class 1 1800
Class 2 1600
6) Finish: A lit finish mark will be anchored off Wick and boats will record their own times in
accordance with Sailing Instruction 12(c) when reaching this. The position of the mark
(lat & lon) to be available on the noticeboard prior to the start of the race.
7) TIMING: Boats are required to log their times at the following positions:
1) Crossing Latitude 58.00’N.
2) Crossing Latitude 58.16’N.
3) At the finish.
Intermediate times will be used if necessary to determine race results in the event of no
boat completing the course within the time limit. This changes rule 35
8) TIME LIMIT: Racing shall cease at 0800 on the 19th July. This changes rule 35
9.) ENTRY: This is an open race. There is no entry fee.
10.) HANDICAPS: Boats must hold a CYCA handicap certificate.
11) PRIZES: will be awarded to the first, second, and third placed
boats in each class at the prize giving ceilidh on Saturday
evening at Wick.

BBQ supplied and if weather is not too inclement it will be inside our new Gazebo!!

Gael Force Series
Supplementary Sailing Instructions
1.General:This Series is an open event and consists of 3 round the buoys races selected
from the Club course card, Appendix C on the Saturday.
2.Saturday:Racing will start at 1000.The first race will be a pursuit race as described in
sailing instruction 16. The second race will be a restricted sail race, in accordance with
Sailing Instruction 15, starting as soon as practical after the finish of the first race. Race 3
will start as soon as possible after race 2 with no restrictions on sail.
3.Race Start will be one of the following and will be advised at pre race briefing:
1.Normal race starts with starting line.
2.Gate Starts as per club Sailing Instruction s appendix ‘A’
4.Entries, with a fee of £10, to:
Peter Sinclair, 46 Pluscarden Road, Elgin, Moray
Payments can be accepted on the day prior to race.

Buckie Race
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General: The race consists of passage race from Lossiemouth to Buckie via Findochty
on Saturday. All racing will be restricted sail, in accordance with Sailing Instruction 15.
2 Start Time: The race will start at 1200 with a time limit of 6 hours.
3 Course: The course will be from the start line to a buoy off Findochty, starboard
rounding, to the finish line, which is the transit of the West Muck light beacon and
lighthouse on North Pier of Buckie Harbour, to a maximum distance of 200 meters off the
West Muck. Boats should exercise extra caution when approaching and crossing the
finish line.
4 Finish: Boats will record their own times when crossing the finishing line, in accordance
with Sailing Instruction 12(c).
5 Times: Boats are required to log their times at the following positions:
1) Crossing Longitude 004.00’E
2) Due east of the Findochty harbour buoy
3) At the finish line.
Intermediate times will be used if necessary to determine race results in the event of no
boat completing the course within the time limit. This changes rule 35
6 Entry: The entry is restricted to LCC members. Entry fee is £5.
7 Social: A social night will be held along with a haddock or scampi supper.
8 Harbour dues for this event will be paid by LCC.
Please note that it is mandatory for all yachts to contact Buckie harbour on Ch.12 prior to
entering or leaving the harbour.
Commodore's Cup
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General: Racing will take place off the East Beach at Lossiemouth.
2 Course: The course will be selected from the club course card,Appendix C.
3 Start Times: The first race will start at 1200, with the second race starting as soon as
practical after the first race.
4 Time Limit: The time limit for each race will be 2 hours.
5 Entry: The entry is restricted to LCC members. The entry fee is £5 for the series.
6 Prizes: The Commodore's Cup will be presented to the overall winner of the two races.
The Commodores Dinner will be held in the 1629 Restaurant after racing. Please see
notice board or website for further details.

Crew's Race
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
General:
The purpose of these two races is to give crews an opportunity to helm the boat that they
normally crew on, under racing conditions. During racing only crew members can helm the boat.
Racing:
All racing will take place off the East Beach with a course selected from the club course card
Appendix C.
During the first beat of the race at a signal from the race officer the regular skipper shall throw a bucket attached to a fender over the stern and retire below. The skipper may not take any part in the recovery which may be completed under engine. If the engine is used it must be started after the skipper has retired below and stopped immediately the 'man overboard' is recovered.
If there are only two people in total on board the boat the regular skipper may assist but can not helm.
Boats are not considered to be racing while the recovery is being made. Boats racing shall keep clear of boats recovering 'man overboard'. This changes RRS Part 2.
Start:
Race1 will start at 1400. The second race will start as soon as practical after the finish of the first race.
Time Limit:
The time limit for each race will be 1.5 hours.
Entry:
Entry is restricted to members of L.C.C. The entry fee is £5.
Eligability:
1. The helm must be a member of L.C.C.
2. Must have been regular members of the crew.
3. Do not normally helm a boat during races.
Prizes:
The Crew’s Trophy will be presented to the boat with the lowest points over the two
races. Individual prizes will be awarded.
Conway Cup and Muster to Banff
This race and muster is organised by Banff Yacht Club and will consist of three races followed
by a prize giving and social evening on the Saturday.
It is thought that yachts participating will sail to Banff on the Friday evening and those partaking in the muster possibly sail to Pennan to anchor in the bay for lunch returning to see the race finish and join in with the social evening.
Racing yachts will be advised of the sailing instructions by Banff Sailing Club.
Yachts to return to base on the Sunday.
Craig Robertson Trophy and Abscot Cup
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General: Racing will take place off the East Beach.
2 Racing: This race will be a pursuit race, in accordance with Sailing Instruction 16, and
restricted sail, in accordance with Sailing Instruction 15.
3 Start: The start time is 1300.
4 Time Limit: The time limit for the race will be 2 hours.
5 Entry: The entry is restricted to members of L.C.C. The entry fee is £5.
6 Prizes: The Craig Robertson Trophy will be presented to the winner.
ABSCOT CUP
Saturday 20th September
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General: Racing will take place off the East Beach with a course selected from the club
course card Appendix C
2 Start: The start will be as soon as possible after the end of the Craig Robertson Trophy.
3 Time Limit: The time limit for the race will be 2 hours.
4 Entry: Entry is restricted to members of L.C.C. The entry fee is £5.
5 Prizes: The Abscot Cup will be presented to the winner
RNLI Pennant and Yard of Ale Races
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General:
Racing will take place off the east
beach with a course selected from the Club course card, Appendix C.
2 Start: 1100
3 Time Limit: The time limit for the race will be 2 hours.
4 Entry: Entry is restricted to L.C.C. members. The entry fee is £5, which goes to the
R.N.L.I.

R.N.L.I. YARD of ALE RACE
Saturday 27th September
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General:Racing will take place off the east beach with a course selected from the club
course card Appendix C
2 Start: The start time will be as soon as practical after the finish of the RNLI Pennant
Race.
3 Time Limit:The time limit for the race will be 2 hours.
4 Entry: Entry is restricted to members of L.C.C. The entry fee is £5 which goes to the
R.N.L.I.
5 Prizes: Will be awarded according to the number of entrants.
6 Social: Further details will appear on the website and notice board prior to
this event.
Win a Prize Race
SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
1 General: This event is intended to be a fun day of sociable sailing. The prizes will be
donated by the club.
2 Course: The course will be a triangle round three marks as instructed by the race officer.
3 Start: Start at 1400, with a ‘set sail’ race of 3 laps.
Lap 1: All boats will be anchored at the direction of the race officer with no sails hoisted.
Roller reefed sails will be furled. There will be a warning signal 1 minute before the start.
At the starting signal engines will be started and anchors raised. Boats will motor to the
first mark where engines will be stopped and headsails only will be set.
A complete lap of the course, from the first mark, using headsail only.
Lap 2 and Lap 3: Full sail.
4 Time Limit: The time limit for the race will be 2 hours.
5 Prizes: The prize giving will be held in the Steamboat Inn as soon as
possible after the race. Prizes will be donated by LCC. The winner has first choice
of prizes then the second placed boat and so on.
